Austria recorded its highest July temperature on July 31, when Wieselburg in Lower Austria reached 40.3 degrees Celsius. The reading broke the national July record of 39.7 degrees, set in Dellach im Drautal on July 27, 1983. GeoSphere Austria confirmed the new monthly high as a severe heatwave tightened its grip on eastern regions. The temperature remained below Austria’s all-time record of 40.5 degrees, measured in Bad Deutsch-Altenburg in August 2013.
President Donald Trump said the United States would cancel a planned attack on Iran if negotiators reached a rapid agreement. He said the proposed deal must reopen the Strait of Hormuz and address Iran’s nuclear activities. Trump also said Israel supported efforts to complete the arrangement. His announcement halted preparations for another round of U.S. strikes. Officials had not released a signed agreement or detailed terms by Monday morning.

The Ebola outbreak in DR Congo has become the country’s largest recorded epidemic. Health authorities counted 3,605 confirmed cases through July 30, including 1,587 deaths. The case fatality rate stood at 44%. Teams logged 567 infections and 296 deaths during the latest full reporting week. Those figures marked the highest weekly totals since the outbreak began. The surge placed further pressure on surveillance, treatment and community response operations. Cases now span 49 health zones in Ituri, North Kivu, South Kivu, Haut-Uélé and Tshopo. Thirty-three zones reported active transmission during the latest seven-day period. They registered 641 cases and 282 deaths. Ituri remained the outbreak’s center, with 3,176 infections, or 88% of the national total. The World Health Organization rates the risk inside DR Congo as very high. It also considers the threat high for Uganda and other countries bordering affected areas. The wider African and global risk levels remain low. Conflict, displacement and regular population movement continue to hinder disease control work. Response teams also face damaged facilities, staffing shortages and restricted access to some communities. Contact tracing falls short of needs, with thousands of contacts outside regular follow-up. Bundibugyo virus disease spreads through contact with infected blood, bodily fluids, organs or contaminated materials. Rapid testing, isolation, supportive care, contact tracing and safe burials remain the main tools for limiting transmission.

German luxury sports car manufacturer Porsche announced an agreement with labor representatives on Monday to reduce its workforce by an additional 5,000 positions by 2035 as part of a restructuring program. The decision brings total planned job eliminations across the company to approximately 9,000 positions, representing roughly 21 percent of its 42,066 workforce. Company leadership confirmed that Porsche to cut 5,000 more jobs under restructuring plan negotiations following months of talks between management and labor councils. The initiative aims to bolster operational efficiency as the vehicle producer confronts declining market share in Asia, elevated global tariffs, and sluggish demand for electric vehicles.
